Stark. Ein Ms. Marvel Kurzfilm, mit minimalem Budget, aber umso mehr Leidenschaft von Fans produziert. Aber trotzdem: Es ist zu ahnen, wie toll eine Ms. Marvel-Serie sein könnte. Ich würde sie mir sofort angucken.
Der Radiologe Matthew DiMasi alias Shattered Comics hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, Vintage-Comic-Cover als Mosaike nachzubilden. Wenn er nicht grad mit seltenen Comics handelt. Für jedes Mosaik-Cover brauch DiMasi laut eigener Aussage um die 100 Stunden. Womit das Ganze ziemlich teuer sein dürfte, sollte DiMasi mal ernsthaft drüber nachdenken, die Dinger zu verkaufen. Welches Cover würdet ihr euch von ihm nachbilden lassen? Ich könnte mich ja nicht entscheiden, zwischen Ms Marvel #1, Stumptown, Lazarus #1 oder Captain Marvel #1. Sebald lesen, der für die Autorin eine wichtige Rolle spielt, aber dank der Unfähigkeit deutscher Verlage müsste ich dafür auf die englische Übersetzung zurückgreifen, weil’s nämlich nur die als E-Books gibt.

Right now, the world of indie feature films is fucked up.
‚MG‘ […] is ‚Minimum Guarantee‘ — what novelists would call an ‚advance‘. In the film world, thanks to the miracle of Hollywood Accounting, the MG is likely to be all the money you ever see from a film. (Both „Blair Witch“ and „Lord Of The Rings“ technically lost money, meaning the studios didn’t owe any royalties.)
The only other narrative medium that’s changing as fast as film right now is VR.
Televison’s a refugee camp right now, where half of the hollow-eyed survivors wandering around in a daze are absent-mindedly clutching Oscars.
If you have any interest in gaming as a creative medium, I urge you to download either the latest Unity or the latest Unreal Engine release. They’re astonishingly easy to use; you’ll be able to create a playable game inside about two hours if you have any familiarity with programming or 3D tools, and probably about three hours if you don’t. They’re absolute powerhouses of software, powering most of the latest big releases right up to AAA games in Unreal’s case. Oh, and they’re free. Barring some reasonable royalty agreements, completely free.
That’s insane.
If you’re very focused, have innovative ideas for ways to tell stories through games without spending too much time on them, and are good at making friends with journalists, indie games are an interesting option for a storyteller right now.

The Secret History of Ultimate Marvel erzählt die Geschichte des Reboots, der Marvel wieder auf Erfolgskurs gebracht hat und warum Marvel 15 Jahre später trotzdem (fast) alles wieder rückgängig macht.

In Like the Force, Copyright Law is About Balance macht sich Casey Rae Gedanken über Copyright bzw. Urheberrecht und wie es beschaffen sein müsste, damit tatsächlich Urheber davon profitieren und Kunst schaffen incentiviert wird. Kein langer Artikel, aber recht ausgewogen.
Nicht die Algorithmen sind das Problem, sondern die Gesellschaften, die sie entwickeln, behauptet You Can’t Handle the (Algorithmic) Truth. Ich bin geneigt, dem zuzustimmen. Gerede von „algorithmischer Verantwortlichkeit“ verkennt die eigentlichen Probleme.

Apropos Geschichten erzählen: Wie Marvel als Produzent von Endlosserien im Comic jetzt Endlosserien im Kino etabliert – das ist genau beobachtet und wird sich voraussichtlich sehr auswirken. Letztlich ist nicht allein Marvel schuld, die nutzen nur einen sowieso bestehenden Trend aus.
The problems with Marvel’s storytelling will be the problems of narrative storytelling for the foreseeable future. Once this is over, we’ll be dealing with a generation raised on this stuff, who believes it’s how storytelling ought to work: Harry Potter came out when I was in high school. I’m in my thirties, and I still haven’t seen the end of the “serialized YA fantasy” onslaught. Something this big sticks around.
