Avengers: Age of Ultron wasn’t just bad. It was, to me, proof that Marvel movies, even at their best, can only be bad. And that they are going to get worse. The human mission has been lost.
Age of Ultron ist scheiße und Marvel killt gutes Popcornkino. Behauptet jedenfalls Sady Doyle und ich finde sie argumentiert sehr überzeugend. Aber ich hab den Film noch gar nicht gesehen.

Eigentlich geht es auch um viel mehr als langweiliges Popcornkino. Oder ob Joss Whedon scheiße ist. Oder Marvel.
If I wanted to see something artful, I could have gone to watch Ex Machina or whatever that new David Cronenberg movie is supposed to be. I didn’t. I went to see Avengers on opening weekend. What I really dislike about Marvel is what they’re doing to stupid popcorn movies.

Marvel has no investment in doing so; that, even if they manage to grab a director who is capable of doing those things, the prioritization of the brand and the formula over individual creators will ultimately sabotage the attempt.
Apropos Geschichten erzählen: Wie Marvel als Produzent von Endlosserien im Comic jetzt Endlosserien im Kino etabliert – das ist genau beobachtet und wird sich voraussichtlich sehr auswirken. Letztlich ist nicht allein Marvel schuld, die nutzen nur einen sowieso bestehenden Trend aus.
The problems with Marvel’s storytelling will be the problems of narrative storytelling for the foreseeable future. Once this is over, we’ll be dealing with a generation raised on this stuff, who believes it’s how storytelling ought to work: Harry Potter came out when I was in high school. I’m in my thirties, and I still haven’t seen the end of the “serialized YA fantasy” onslaught. Something this big sticks around.
